How To Create A Hard House Hoover Synth
Found this good tutorial on how to create hoovers-
"I used to make a lot of hard house music and one of the most common sounds in hard house and similar types of hard dance music is the hoover sound. Even though it is used a lot (sometimes too much) some people have trouble recreating this sound themselves and end up using samples. The original sound was made on the Roland Juno Synthesizer and I’ve even heard of people buying that synth just to create this type of sound and spending hundreds of their hard earned cash in the process. In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make a basic hoover without a Juno. If your not sure what a hoover synth is then play the sound below."

Mastering Guide - Home Recording Methods
Been reading a good little guide today about mastering, is quite straightforward running through a few things like getting a good mix down, eq, and compression.
"This is a step-by-step guide to mastering at home. All this can be done for free, with no equipment (other than your computer and instruments) and made to sound pretty good in my opinion - scroll down to hear the final mix. Most steps have a sample to show you how it sounds so far."

(Oh btw if you want a free vst plugin exciter, for use on individual tracks or at the mastering stage, I downloaded one from here, have used it few times and it appears to be decent, is suppose to emulate analog hardware..)
Ableton Tutorial - How to cheat groove quantizing (steal the groove from a drum loop)
Ableton Live (v7 and below) is unable to quantise a groove to the entire track, unlike alot of other daws. Until Ableton add this feature in future versions, heres a simple little cheat. Start by importing your groovy drum loop into an audio track, now set the warp markers on the track to effectivly "un-groove" the loop. After doing that, just click the button below warp, that should read slave, after clicking it should be highlighted yellow and say master. Now the entire track's tempo should warp, moving faster and slower with the drum loop, simple as that :)
If I wasn't very clear there and just confussed the hell out of you, try watching this youtube video-

Soundfonts!
(to use soundfonts on some software you'll need a vst plugin, a free one can be found here, also some fonts will be compressed and you'l need one of these to extract it, SF Pack / SF Ark)
Taken from wikipedia-
"SoundFont is a brand name that collectively refers to a file format and associated technology designed to bridge the gap between recorded and synthesized audio, especially for the purposes of computer music composition. SoundFont is also a registered trademark of E-mu Systems, Inc..
SoundFont technology is akin to software sampling. A SoundFont file, or SoundFont 'bank', contains one or more sampled audio waveforms (or 'samples'), which can be re-synthesized at different pitches and dynamic levels. Each sampled waveform may be associated with one or more ranges of pitches and dynamics. Generally speaking, the quality of a SoundFont bank is a function of the quality of the digital samples and the intelligent association of samples with their appropriate pitch ranges. Quality is also dependent on the number of samples taken for a given range of pitches.
SoundFont banks are tightly integrated with MIDI devices and can be seamlessly used in place of GM patches in many computer music sequencers. The sound quality of SoundFont banks is generally regarded as superior to standard GM banks, and many SoundFont banks have been created specifically to replace GM banks with samples of each corresponding instrument."
